The food we eat
– and the way we produce it -
is doing terrible damage to our planet and to our health.
The global food system is the single biggest contributor to biodiversity loss, deforestation, drought, freshwater pollution and the collapse of aquatic wildlife. It is the second-biggest contributor to climate change, after the energy industry.
The UK National Food Strategy – The Plan
Clean Food Group is on a mission to change this - to make healthier, more sustainable alternatives to food ingredients that are causing irrevocable damage to our planet and our health without compromising on taste or performance.
Fats and oils have a crucial role in carrying flavours, defining texture and mouthfeel and determining melting behaviour of foods.
However, the production of commonly used fats such as palm oil, soybean oil, cocoa butter and milk fat have been linked to widespread deforestation and other environmental issues.
We develop sustainable ‘CLEAN’ alternatives to these fats and oils, ranging from liquid oils like soybean, through to hard fats like palm oil, cocoa butter and milk fat.

Proteins are structural and functional building blocks in most food products and affect texture, stability, shelf life, flavour release and appearance.
However, significant environmental, health and animal welfare concerns about existing and future consumption levels of animal and some plant proteins such as soy have led to an increase in demand for more sustainable alternative proteins.

Flavours play an important role in the eating experience of foods as well as digestion.
However, significant concerns around the environmental impact of chemically derived artificial flavours has led to an increase in demand for sustainable, natural flavours.

Probiotic food ingredients, reported to provide several health benefits including maintenance of a good balance of intestinal flora, are in increasing demand due to increased awareness of consumers about the impact of food on our health.
