CLEANOilCell™

The next generation of sustainable oil production

Clean Food Group’s proprietary CLEANOilCell™ technology platform uses proven, scalable, non-GMO yeast strains and food waste as its food source, to deliver sustainable alternatives to traditional oil and fat ingredients.

The robust technology platform has been developed as a result of 10 years of pioneering research into the development of proprietary oleaginous yeast strains and fermentation processes, built on over £7.5 million of UK Government funding.

We’ve got a really robust yeast that is capable of growing in low-sterile conditions, so we can retrofit existing fermentation units- we don’t have to go out and build new bioreactors. This dramatically decreases capex and lead time to scale to market. This is a big point of differentiation compared to our competitors who are using less robust yeast, or genetically modified organisms, which means they require pharmaceutical style, purpose built bioreactors

Science-Driven Sustainability

Our commitment is to leverage our unique scientific research, technology platform and ongoing innovation to address one of the most significant challenges facing the world today – how to reconcile the need to reduce intensive, non-sustainable farming practices whilst meeting the ever-increasing global demand for healthy food – with a growing population estimated to reach 9bn by 2050.

It is clear this cannot be solved by a traditional agricultural approach. Today, food production accounts for 25% of global greenhouse emissions, with high yield monocultures responsible for the increasing levels of disease, deforestation and land exhaustion. Food waste – a nutrient source currently not recycled back into the food ecosystem, represents a shocking 30% of global food production.

The top three drivers of commodity driven deforestation today are all foods: Beef and dairy, soy, palm oil.

Two of these are oil seeds and all are grown in direct competition with carbon rich, biodiverse land and forest.

Our technology converts food waste into valuable food ingredients, providing sustainable alternatives to these top three deforestation drivers.
